A 31 years old man was admitted in private hospital for removal of lipoma under the skin. After adm. of test dose of lidocaine, full dose of 10 ml of lidocaine was administered locally. After 5 minutes of an injection given, the patient developed seizures, attendants were informed and the patient was shifted to Government Medical College Hospital where patient brought dead declared. A complaint of death due to an overdose of lidocaine because of negligence has been filed. Though, investigation, post martum examination report is in process.
The doctor who has given lidocaine injection was not anaesthatist. Pharmacology of lidocaine revealed, it can cause seizures but if the patient is already epileptic, then chances are more even with a therapeutic dose. What Is your opinion? Is it negligence? Was it the right time for shifting the patient? Why seizures could not be managed in private…
