With changing times and requirements, medical education needs to be continuously updated and upgraded. Only MBBS degree is slowly becoming useless, as far as jobs are concerned (except government). We also realise that the quality of young doctors with only MBBS degree is slowly deteriorating (for various reasons). Everyone wants to get into a specialisation.
Also with the advent of newer techniques, procedures, rising population, epidemic of lifestyle diseases like Diabetes, one needs more experts in niche areas. Some of the courses which I think need to be introduced are Diploma in Diabetes Mellitus, Ultrasonography, medical genetics, emergency medicine, accident and trauma etc. I also feel that it is time to introduce PG in Family Medicine.
