Recently, there are several reports that students with abnormalities or genetic conditions have to take help of the legal system to prove that their disabilities are the ones recognized under the statute and therefore, they cannot be denied admission under the persons with disabilities (PWD) category. Often in such cases, it has been observed that there is a lot of confusion between the applicants and medical institutions to update and follow the amendments set by the Medical Council of India.
Moreover, such instances send out a message among students that the PWD category is a misfit for the medical profession.
