The State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, Kerala, recently upheld a District Commission decision exonerating a Thiruvananthapuram-based hospital and its urologist from allegations of medical negligence related to a kidney stone removal surgery. The case dates back to 2014, when a patient first consulted the doctor with severe pain on the left side of his abdomen. After initial examinations and medication, the patient again experienced pain, prompting an ultrasound scan that revealed a 5 mm stone in the right kidney and two stones, measuring 10 mm and 6 mm in the left kidney.
