It may pose a greater risk of miscarriage in the early stages of pregnancy than it was known earlier. Listeriosis is caused due to ingestion of contaminated food with bacterium Listeria monocytogenes . It’s a serious infection with an estimated death of about 260 every year only in the USA. Pregnant women and her newborn are most susceptible to Listeria infection.
Listeria monocytogenes has a characteristic of surviving in temperatures from -7°C to 45°C.
