The Lok Sabha has recently passed a bill that serves a humanitarian purpose. This bill is called “The Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) Amendment Bill, 2020.” If this bill becomes a law with proper regulations, it may prove to be a ray of hope and relief for women who are victims and brave survivors of unfortunate situations and for differently-abled women. This revolutionary bill was passed by Lok Sabha by a voice vote in unison with the Health Minister’s positive reply. A bill was recently passed to raise the upper limit for legal and safe termination of pregnancy.
Previously, the gestational period bar for termination of pregnancy was 20 weeks which has been extended to 24 weeks.
