Esophageal carcinoma (EC) is an aggressive and the eighth most common cancer accounting for 500,000 deaths every year. In addition, EC has a poor prognosis and an overall 5-year survival rate. Surgery is the standard treatment for EC, besides neoadjuvant chemotherapy and chemoradiotherapy with esophagectomy. The poor prognosis of EC is associated with metastatic lymph nodes. Hence, surgical outcomes in EC highly depend on lymphadenectomy and primary tumor invasion.
