Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common form of arthritis, with a prevalence of 22% to 39% in India . Recently few researchers at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and Carnegie Mellon University College of Engineering have created a machine-learning algorithm. The algorithm can detect subtle signs of OA from an MRI scan taken years before symptoms develop in a patient .
The algorithm successfully predicts OA with 78% accuracy from MRIs performed three years before symptom onset. This model may act as a predictive measure to assess the risk of OA. Source: Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences Take this short quiz to update your knowledge on OA
