Authorities in Maharashtra have uncovered two separate cases that raise fresh concerns about unethical medical practices and regulatory violations in reproductive healthcare. In one case, police arrested the director of an IVF center in Nashik for alleged involvement in an illegal human egg extraction racket targeting economically vulnerable women. The arrest followed an investigation into activities reportedly operating out of Badlapur and Ulhasnagar in the Thane region.
The doctor was produced before the Kalyan sessions court and remanded to five days of police custody. Investigators said the accused allegedly functioned as a surrogate mother agent and maintained links with a network suspected to extend across multiple states and possibly even internationally.
