A lady aged 27 yrs , G 2 P 2 , presently pregnant with gestation of 21 weeks of duration was advised routine ultrasound . Liquor amni was adequate and the growth of the foetus was good for the duration , foetal movements good. Her cervical length was 2.7 cms and width 2 cms and the radiologist mentioned cervical incompetence in the report. The lady was a graduate and came to me for discussion regarding the same. I advised her that the length of the cervix during pregnancy is dynamic depending on the levels of progesterone .

Presently the length is fine and advised her to repeat the scan after 4 weeks. Usually progesterone injections are advised 500 mg advised once in 15 days only when cervical length is below 2.2 cms at 24 weeks of gestation.
