The term premature ovarian failure refers to hypergonadotropic hypogonadism and amenorrhea arising before the age 40. Premature ovarian insufficiency is more appropriate as 5 to 10 % of them may still conceive and deliver baby. Approximately 1 % of women will develop menopause before age 40. Aetiopathogenesis The underlying cause include  autoimmune disorders,radiation therapy,chemotherapy,fragile X premutations and various structural and numerical  (Turners syndrome ) chromosomal abnormalities.Galactosemia and various mutations in genes encoding intraovarian regulators are also some of uncommon causes.
