The term premature ovarian failure refers to hypergonadotropic hypogonadism and amenorrhea arising before the age 40. Premature ovarian insufficiency is more appropriate as 5 to 10 % of them may still conceive and deliver baby. Approximately 1 % of women will develop menopause before age 40.
