The Maharashtra medical council (MMC) and several other state councils have recommended to the Union Health Ministry and the Medical Council of India that the Medicos who obtained their degrees from foreign should undergo a mandatory one-year internship in India, before they start practicing. These recommendations have been made considering that medical education outside is not attuned to Indian healthcare requirements. At the meeting, held between the state councils, it was discussed that the medicos with foreign degrees need to be supplemented with the knowledge of the country’s most prevalent diseases, their treatment protocols and associated patient issues.
