Medical Council of India (MCI) has expressed their strong intention to be strict on the “screening test” to confer the equivalence and MCI registration to students who have obtained their undergraduate medical degree from foreign countries. The question of equivalence of medical degree obtained outside India is a long debated issue. To address this issue on the recommendation of Medical council of India (MCI) an amendment to Indian Medical Council Act, 1956 section 13 was done adding two sub-clauses 13 (a) and 13 (b).
The amendment clearly stated a computer based ‘screening test’ to be conducted by the National Board of Examination (NBE) named as Foreign Medical Graduate examination (FMGE) twice every year in June and December to judge the equivalence of foreign degree.
