Recent circular issued by the MCI authorities to all administrators of medical colleges and other institutions regarding writing generic drugs has evoked varied response's and evoked confusion in the mind of doctors. I understand the name generic means pharmacological name. If one write only this name pharmacist has to issue only that if it is available. If not he will issue a drug of a company of his choice.
On the other hand in addition to what we are writing at present if we can add pharmacological name in brackets it should be fine. But idea behind such a action is to bring down the financial burden of the patient. I invite all the members to convey their opinion on this issue which could be really a good intellectual stimulation.
