A city-based private hospital and one of its doctors were ordered by the District Consumer Court to pay Rs 2.5 lakh in compensation to a patient who had to seek further treatment after developing complications from a fasciotomy performed at the hospital. The patient, diagnosed with compartment syndrome at that hospital, underwent surgery for a leg fracture at another hospital, but his condition worsened, leading to persistent pain, infection, and eventually foot drop. Alleging negligence, the patient filed a complaint, claiming Rs 20 lakh in damages, as he had to spend over Rs 11 lakh for additional treatment at first hospital.
