Medication use in elderly patients frequently involves risks and complications due to low immunity and vigor. Noncompliance not only reduces efficacy but also deteriorate the disease condition further. There are certain obstacles which need to be understood by the physicians so that the efficacy of the drugs can be evaluated appropriately. Why is adherence to medications important?
As the elderly are prone to multiple comorbidities, they are at higher risk of polypharmacy and therefore may present with the higher risk of nonadherence to medications compared to the younger population.
