I was going through the recent recommendation by MCI to be an Assistant Professor in a Medical College, I found the requirement of one year Senior Residency, which is required now according to the MCI norms, an unnecessary step. We are already having shortage of faculty all over India in medical colleges. We need to make the norms more attractive to the young doctors with MD and MS degree to join the teaching profession.
At present a number of young doctors are very reluctant to join the teaching profession, which is not good sign for the Medical Education in our country. Teaching is a job which requires good communication skill, we can see a lot of faculty members who have all the qualifications but they can not be good teachers.
