The 1st of October every year is observed as the International Day of  Older Persons. The motto is to address and spread awareness about the challenges faced by the elderly population. As older people are more susceptible to threats imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic, measures must be taken to increase awareness towards their individual needs. WHO defines healthy aging as “the process of developing and maintaining the functional ability that enables wellbeing in older age”.

As said by Maya Angelou, “If you find it in your heart to care for somebody else, you will have succeeded.”  On this occasion, therefore, let us acknowledge the role played by the elderly in the society and take measures to ensure their safety and wellbeing.
