Knowledge and training in medical ethics are important for medical students before they attempt to do research. In India, the significant number of teaching medical faculty are still not aware of what constitutes plagiarism. There are professors who sign the dissertations submitted by the post graduate without checking for originality and plagiarism. Medical Council of India made a certain number of publications compulsory for promotion to the higher level for teaching medical faculty in medical colleges.
This resulted in debates and allegations of scientific misconduct. Some of the teaching faculty are alleged to have resorted to plagiarism to get promotions.
