Researchers from the University of Vienna, Austria have developed a novel vaccine against Chikungunya virus with good immunogenicity and safety profile. This live vaccine is based on a modified Measles virus that has been genetically modified to express the surface proteins of Chikungunya virus. In a Phase II trial, researchers have demonstrated that only two injections of the vaccines are sufficient to confer immunity against the virus, regardless of the interval between the two doses.
The vaccine when injected intramuscularly triggers the production of neutralizing antibodies that prevent further spread of the virus in the body. Source: Economic Times
