Recently a newborn suffering from a rare life-threatening infection, Necrotising fasciitis was saved by a team of Bengaluru doctors. This one-month-old baby was infected by a Superbug known as “MRSA - Methicillin”- resistant Staphylococcus Aureus which is a bacterium causing life-threatening infections which was eating her flesh. The baby had an innocuous looking superficial skin infection. Small pus-filled boils eroded into the skin and the underlying fascia causing local destruction of tissues.
Her chest was being rapidly eaten away leaving a gaping defect over the skin. The team of doctors gave life to the newborn by controlling the blood stream infection, removing the dead skin and flesh thereby controlling the source, and optimizing wound care.
