Patients undergoing high-risk cardiac surgery with significant comorbidities and complex cardiac surgical procedures often require prolonged ICU stay, necessitating early intense nutrition support. An oral or enteral nutritional intake for such patients is required to reduce surgical stress, maintain physiological functions, and facilitate postoperative functional recovery. However, further research on factors that help identify patients who may benefit from nutrition therapy and when to begin nutritional interventions is warranted.
