Can once-weekly insulin redefine diabetes management in Indian clinical practice? The ONWARDS 1, 4, and 6 studies evaluated the efficacy and safety of once-weekly insulin icodec in Indian participants with type 1 and type 2 diabetes across different treatment settings from insulin-naïve to basal-bolus regimens. Findings revealed that insulin icodec achieved comparable HbA1c reductions versus once-daily basal insulins (glargine U100 and degludec), with similar time-in-range outcomes across all studies.
Notably, lower rates of clinically significant hypoglycaemia were observed with icodec in T2D populations (ONWARDS 1 and 4), while outcomes in T1D (ONWARDS 6) were consistent with global trends. The safety profile remained comparable, with no new concerns identified in Indian participants. These results highlight the potential of once-weekly insulin icodec as a convenient and effective…
