ORS day is celebrated every year to mark the importance of Oral Rehydration Salts as a cost-effective method to protect from acute diarrhoeal disease. According to WHO reports, Diarrhoeal disease is second leading cause of death in infants under 5 years of age. Fluid and electrolyte loss from the body causes dehydration which in turn leads to diarrhoea. So according to WHO, Oral Rehydration Therapy (ORT) in the form ORS should be recommended as first line of treatment for dehydration related diarrhoea.
