After the first laparoscopic ventral hernia repair took place in 1993, more surgeons began accepting it. Owing to the high recurrence rates following standard open repair, laparoscopy became an alternative treatment for ventral or incisional hernias. Newer instruments have been developed over the years to facilitate laparoscopic surgery, such as tackers and fixation devices.
