Gingivitis is an inflammation of the mucosal epithelial tissue surrounding the cervical portion of the teeth and the alveolar processes. Gingivitis is classified based on its clinical appearance, etiology, and duration. In India, many people do not visit dentists on a regular basis. Also, in case of tooth pain and if the caries is not apparent they prefer going to their family physician. This article aims to provide an overview about etiology of gingivitis and its management option.
