The common cause of Pancreatitis is gall stones or sludges for females and alcohol intake for males. There are certain precipitating factors that might alter the progress to pancreatitis as not all the patients who have gall stones or alcohol drinkers develop this disease. It is found that smoking is a modifiable precipitating factor for not only the occurrence of Pancreatitis among alcohol drinkers but it induces chronicity too.
Scientists are striving to know more precipitating factors as many of such are modifiable and consequently to prevent Pancreatitis to occur or to progress into chronic form.
