WHO has defined anaemia during pregnancy as haemoglobin concentration of less than 11gm% and a hematocrits of less than 33%.CDC proposes a cut off point of 11gm % in first and third trimester and 10.5% in second trimester. Anaemia is a significant health problem specially in developing country like India. Our country shares 80% of maternal death due to anaemia in South Asia and 40% of maternal death in India.Intravenous iron can be a useful treatment for iron-deficiency anaemia in several clinical situations, including in patients who are intolerant to or unresponsive to oral iron, patients undergoing elective surgery, and in patients in whom the severity of the anaemia requires rapid correction.
