This report is published by Australian Red Cross Blood Service, after collecting a data from 755 elective orthopedic procedures conducted across Australian capitol and northern territory. This report may help clinicians to measure and reduce clinical variations while using blood products. The recommendations made in this report should help better patient blood management, implementation strategies to optimize the use of blood products and ensure safe transfusion practices. Although transfusion of blood products improve clinical outcomes, it also comes with potential adverse events related to immunomodulation and storage conditions.
