According to the National Polyp Study, polypectomy has proved to prevent 70% to 90% of colorectal cancers after colonoscopy. Polypectomy is a noninvasive procedure to remove polyps from colon or rectum which are parts of the large intestine. A polyp is an abnormal form of tissue that can be benign before it turns out into a malignant form.
Polyps are associated with symptoms like rectal bleeding, abdominal pain, and bowel irregularities. In colonoscopy detection of polyps, they are determined according to its growth as cancerous, precancerous or benign. After detection, polypectomy surgery is performed that helps to prevent colorectal cancers.
