Recently a person with long standing history of generalised psoriasis on homeo treatment took potassium permanganate wash of his body which resulted in generalised exfoliation, dry skin with pedal edema, burning sensation of skin. Body invlovenment was more than 85%, sparing the genitals and face, No pustules were found, no focus of infection was noted, no evidence of oral lesions seen, sclaes were fine and numerous, investigations were within normal range, with no specific abnormility. Did the use of potassium permanganate lead to erthroderma, potassium permanaganate is used in palmo plantar psoriasis, In such a scenario can methotrexate be used to control erythroderma. Can i get some inputs please.
Two days after medication edema reduced along with erythema. topical paraffin, moisturser, with hydrocortisone IV gave good results.
