The government of India has capped the prices of 45 medications and issued a notification through National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA). The list includes essential medications for diseases such as TB and cancer. The Government of India has decided to put a cap on the 45 drugs which are used in the treatment of critical and life-threatening diseases such as TB, cancer and cardiac diseases. As per the notification, the ceiling prescribed by NPPA would bring down the costs of these drugs by 15%.

The notification said that, NPPA has revised ceiling prices of 45 scheduled formulations of Schedule-I under Drugs (Price control) Amendment Order, 2016. Out of 45 of these drugs, the prices of 42 drugs would be slashed down by 15%. The NPPA has also fixed a retail price of 12 formulations under Drug Price Control Order (DPCO), 2013.
