In a case of medical negligence, the district consumer forum here has ordered a private hospital and an orthopaedic surgeon to jointly compensate Rs 3 lakh to a patient for making her physically disabled. C Kamalamma, (40) of Medak district has suffered a severe pain in the right leg after she fell down at her home and was taken to one Dr. Ananth Reddy of nearby hospital. After examining, he advised her to approach Dr G Srihari, general physician and MD of Gokul Venkatesshwar Multi Speciality Hospital.
Srihari took an x-ray and referred Kamalamma to Dr P Anand Naik, an orthopaedic surgeon. Due to the negligent handling of the doctor, she suffered fracture of femur bone of the right leg for which he performed a surgery on the same day at a cost of Rs. 26,864 and discharged her on November 19, 2011.
