Psychiatric disorders and psychopharmacology have not been studies so far as a risk factor for various diseases. The new study published claims that psychiatric disorders and psychopharmacological treatment may be associated as risk factors for arthroplasty of knee and hip. Psychiatric disorders (PsD) are generally not considered while evaluating perioperative risk factors in complex orthopedic surgeries. The main reason for this is that the studies on PsD are often limited by use of administrative coding, incomplete follow-up, and lack of preoperative data on psychopharmacological treatment.
