A government hospital at Madurai successfully treated a case of full-body paralysis without any cost under the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme . The patient was a two-year-old boy diagnosed with a rare auto-immune disease, namely, Guillain Barre Syndrome . The disease is characterized by a rapid onset of muscle weakness due to damage in the peripheral nervous system by the immune system. The boy was on life support for seven months and was treated with Immunoglobulin and Methyl Prednisolone.

This was one of the rarest cases of auto immune disease . This highlights the importance of immunotherapy in similar cases. Source – ET Health World
