Doctors at a California medical center have delivered a healthy baby from an extremely rare and life-threatening abdominal ectopic pregnancy in a 41-year-old woman who was unaware she was pregnant until just before surgery. The unprecedented case involved the simultaneous removal of a massive ovarian cyst and the safe delivery of a full-term infant at one of the Medical Center in Los Angeles. The patient, an emergency room nurse from Bakersfield, had been scheduled for surgery to remove a 22-pound noncancerous ovarian cyst that had been growing for several years.
