Microscopic colitis is characterized by chronic watery diarrhea with macroscopically normal colonic mucosa, with common symptoms like abdominal pain, weight loss, and fatigue. This article provides recent advances in the management of microscopic colitis. Microscopic colitis (MC) is an inflammation of colon which leads to watery diarrhea. It has two subtypes as collagenous colitis (CC) and lymphocytic colitis (LC). About 4-13% case of diarrhea are found to be associated with microscopic colitis.
Symptoms : The symptoms for both the types of microscopic colitis are same. They mainly include non-bloody chronic watery diarrhea, abdominal pain or cramps, weight loss, nausea and fecal incontinence.
