We have all come across the pacifistic red plus sign which denotes the humanistic approach of field of medicine providing services to the mankind. This symbol was implemented during the war times to give relief services to the soldiers in the battlefield and since then the symbol has come a long way. Recently, the International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) which is represented by the emblem has disallowed the use of this symbol by the healthcare professions as it is already patented and protected under the Geneva Convention of 1949.

This article provides a brief update on this matter.
