According to a new study in North California the implementation of reduced opioid prescription was studied to standardize the pain control approach. Pain Management Protocol (PMP) for trauma patients was implemented by a multidisciplinary research team to improve pain management by reducing the opioids prescription. PMP Study for Trauma Patients: This study compared the amount of opioid medication prescribed during discharge and in follow-up before and after implementation of the protocol. It was observed that in 2 years period 498 patients were managed by this advanced protocol by monitoring the opioid prescription.

The results focused on the average use of morphine milligram equivalents (MME) in trauma patients. The results showed that prior to PMP the average MME per person was 2,421. But after the implementation of PMP this number significantly reduced to 1,242 MME per person. The…
