This article highlights routinely encountered complications in case of ankle fractures (AF). The article further discusses different measures to minimize the complications when dealing with these injuries. Normally young active men with high-energy trauma, and older women with lower energy trauma are highly susceptible to ankle fractures (AF). In cases of undisplaced injuries, nonoperative treatment is the most appropriate management where advising surgeries have been deemed as an ‘over treatment’.
Hence, patient selection is vital in deciding the type of management especially in diabetes and peripheral vascular disease patients which increase the risk of complications and morbidity.
