By far the most effective treatment for thymoma is complete surgical removal of the tumour along with the thymus gland which offers the best chance for a cure. It’s usually possible to remove the whole tumour if it’s contained within the thymus gland (encapsulated). Sometimes thymus gland tumours can spread into nearby structures.

However, the full extent of the tumour can often only be accurately assessed during surgery.
