The last decade has seen several epidemics and pandemics such as the H1N1, avian influenza, yellow fever, Ebola virus, Marburg virus, Middle East Respiratory Syndrome virus, West Nile virus, Nipah virus and Zika virus. One of the major causes of these is considered to be the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) virus. The SARS virus had caused a pandemic in the year 2003, affecting 26 countries worldwide.
