About seven years ago, I lost my younger brother to gross medical negligence in a corporate hospital, accredited to Joint Commission International in Kolkata. It is understandable that people make mistakes but when a doctor makes a mistake, the cost may be a life. It is unfortunate, but there is no way around it. Even more painful is losing the dear one simply to the apathy of the health care workers and the experience of fighting for justice for the deceased one.
It is disheartening to see the way the corporate hospital has been trying to cover up the gross negligence by its doctors. Like minded doctors need to come together and show that majority of us respect the human life and treat the patient with good intention. Our world revolves round the patient and not the Medical Council of India, IMA or even the proposed NMC. A handful of doctors have brought disrepute to our profession…
