In 1989 just completed HS and opened a clinic in a remote village of Orissa. One day a call càme from nearby house to attend a case of retained placenta delivery conducted by ANM. When examined the patient she was pulseless ,unconscious about to die with profuse bleeding and pool of blood on the floor.
ANM has left the patient and gone her house when failed to deliver placenta by pulling the cord which was detached and placenta is deep inside uterus firmly adhered to the wall.whole members of the pt's family were crying .Even if referred may die on the way to hospital where OG splts blood bank available nearly100 kms away .Anyway by the grace of God put an iv line with oxytocin and detached the placenta manually with very good result.
