Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a major health problem that can result in significant mortality and morbidity. Approximately, two-thirds manifest deep vein thrombosis whereas, one-third of patients with symptomatic VTE manifest pulmonary embolism. Recent studies have disapproved of the previous notion of rare VTE incidences in the Indian population.
