Gastric cancer is the third leading cause of cancer deaths and the fifth most common type of malignancy in the world. Despite treatment advances, the prognosis of patients with advanced gastric cancer is poor. In such settings, a sequential strategy can be useful to achieve better results due to benefits like sequential treatment planning, administration of full doses of most active drugs as the first line with acceptable toxicity, and administration of a non-cross resistant agent with a different mechanism of action for circumventing drug resistance1.
