In days of intracapsular cataract surgery, there was a strict contraindication to operate diabetic patients with fasting blood sugar of 120mg or more. This contraindication continued till we performed ECCE with PMMA IOL. But now with Phaco surgery with injectable IOL and corneal incision of 2-3 mm and the use of disposables with perfect OT sterilization, I do not find any reason to not to operate diabetics even with fasting blood sugar of 150 and Random blood sugar od 200mg.

I have carried four such surgeries in several cases with excellent results I would like opinion of my professional colleagues about their experience and in case they are still following old guidelines, the reasons for that. I strongly feel that there is no reason for this restriction. This opinion may help for consumer cases.
