A 5-month ORPHAN failure to thrive female baby with recurrent admissions in ICU for diarrhoea and pneumonia was recommended for adoption by a tertiary centre in Ranchi. The baby was brought for the cross exam and 2 nd opinion a few days ago by London based Indian couple. The baby weighed just 3.5 kg, had very stormy life till now. She was admitted 4 times and in several ABGs and other invest done I could find major derangements as below HCO 3 or bi-carbonate always below 10 except in 1 report indicating severe acidosis. pH was about 7 in one and always about 7.2 or lower. K in most was 3 to 3.5.
