Recently I treated a patient with Cardiogenic shock, pulmonary edema and multiorgan failure. Fortunately the patient recovered next day and imagine what the patient and their patient's attendants asked me? "Can you discharge the patient immediately, we have an important function in a few days". And they left soon, of course after paying the dues, despite my warnings of the dangers of such early removal of the patient from intensive care to home care! These days MONEY rules the world and the attitude of the patient is: Doctors treat me because I pay.
There is no gratitude for saving lives, no gratitude for showing mercy or expressing concern. Life has become incredibly mechanical.
