Osteoarthritis (OA) is a joint disorder caused by irregularity in proteoglycan metabolism. Detecting the agents that regulate proteoglycan synthesis and degradation can be crucial in paving the way for developing OA therapeutics.

High-throughput screening (HTS) is used successfully for the measurement of proteoglycans. However, recent studies reveal its combination with a colorimetric assay to yield even better results than HTS alone.
